ACCG are hosting two Tree Giveaway Events on Saturday 17th December for CBC Sustainability’s Tree Giveaway Programme:
10am – 12 noon at Flitwick Village Hall, Dunstable Street, Flitwick, MK45 1HP – Conference Room – entrance at rear of building – we’re co-hosting with Share: Flitwick and Ampthill – https://shareflitwickandampthill.org/
1.30-3.30pm at Ampthill Town Council, Park Lodge, Ampthill Great Park, Woburn Street, Ampthill, MK45 2HX ( Central Car Park, next to The Coffee Lodge)
The trees are small saplings – or whips – which are very young trees and easy to plant. They are intended for gardens, or other land which you own. They will all grow to a decent size on a timescale of 10 to 20 years, so they need to be planted in appropriate places. The tree species are Hawthorn, Bird Cherry, Silver Birch and Field Maple. We’re able to give away 1 to 5 tree whips to interested households.
You will need to fill in a Tree Adoption Care Contract, which can be done ahead of time online, or by printing from the information pack below. The bare roots of whips need to be protected from frost and kept damp. We’ll hand them over in damp kitchen roll, so bringing a carrier bag will be helpful to get them home. They should be good to plant straightaway unless the soil is hard frozen at depth.
